Two Months of Action – Voting For The Health of It

Dear Leader:

Thank you so very much for contributing to a most successful A. Philip Randolph Institute, 39th National Education Conference, and supporting our: Two Months of Action – Voting For The Health of It.

If you were in attendance, I am sure that you share my pride and enthusiasm about the depth of our educational offerings and the fun-filled nature of our social events.  If you were unable to attend this year’s Conference, your efforts to help grow our organization, throughout the year is both valued and appreciated.

Ever since our 2007 Conference, we have been leading the way in ensuring that the issue of race-based health disparities is squarely on the nation’s agenda.  The fact that African Americans have a life expectancy that is nearly seven years shorter than white Americans is unacceptable.  The fact that African Americans suffer disproportionately from many preventable and chronic diseases is unacceptable.

In 2007 the A. Philip Randolph Institute stated that “The elimination of race-based health disparities must be part of any major healthcare reform.”  While our Chapters and APRI Activists around the country have done a superb job of education and spreading this message – there is still work to be done.

As you are well aware, bringing about meaningful healthcare reform will require both will and commitment from government officials at the highest level.  The individuals that will end up passing legislation and affecting policy decisions must be in place to make certain that we go forward and not backward – particularly on the important issue of healthcare.

The A. Philip Randolph Institute will do its part in a measurable way.  Attendees at this years Conference committed to Registering 100,000 New Voters.  With 150 Chapters around the country, if only 100 Chapters register 1000, We Can Do This!

Attached is an overview of our action plan.  Remember that:  No one can do it all – but when we all pitch in, we can accomplish great things.

Thank You,

 In Unity and For Progress,

Clayola Brown,
APRI National President
