On the passing of Alexis Herman

Alexis Herman former US Labor Secretary

The A. Philip Randolph Institute (APRI) is deeply saddened by the passing of former U.S. Labor Secretary Alexis Herman, a committed and dedicated leader whose life's work was committed to ensuring that equal employment opportunities were available to all, regardless of race, creed or color.

In the early 1970's, Alexis Herman was one of the first recruiters and trainers in the A. Philip Randolph Institute's Recruitment Training Program (RTP). She was the head of APRI's Women's Department to recruit, place and support young apprentices, especially young women, into the Building Trades.
